Large red fruit, and nearly completely thornless!
Delicious sun ripened straight off the bush, also great cooked in pies and crumbles.
Ripens late December and through January depending on how much heat it gets.
A less vigorous bush than the green Invicta gooseberry, it is nearly thornless so is a lot nicer to work with than the thorny one, mildew resistant.
The fruit is tangy until very ripe and then is sweet (especially good if eaten sun warmed straight off the bush).
Amazing flavour when cooked in pies, or mixed with apples in crumbles.
We have removed all of the buds up to 15 cm to reduce suckering and low branches, which can be a pain (literally) on these prickly plants.
Gooseberries are a super easy to grow, in warm areas they can be grown under fruit trees in part shade.
Cutting grown plants around 0.3-0.5m tall with great roots.
